He shall have passed the studentship examination as conducted by the Institute or shall possess an educational recognised by the Council as sufficient for exemption from passing the said Studentship Examination.
He shall in the opinion of the Council be making satisfactory progress in the acquisition of qualification for Corporate Membership. Candidates who have passed the Studentship Examination or have passed any examination as listed in Appendix II shall be eligible to apply for Technician Membership.

He shall have passed either (a) an accredited diploma examination in engineering or technology or its equivalent as recognised by the Council or (b) such other examination recognised by the Council as exempting from passing Section A of the Institute Examination in non-diploma stream.
He shall be engaged in the engineering profession as a pupil or apprentice or assistant under Corporate Member or a person possessing the qualification required to be elected as a Corporate Member and shall in the opinion of the Council be making satisfactory progress in the acquisition of qualifications for Corporate Membership provided that temporary unemployment is no bar to his election. (I) Candidates who have passed an examination as listed in the Appendix III part I shall be eligible to apply for Senior Technician Membership.
(II) Candidates who possess any qualification as lifted in the Appendix III part II shall be eligible to apply for Senior Technician Membership claming complete exemption from Section A of the Institution Examination.		 Candidates engaged as artisans, tracers, storekeepers or in such like employment will not be considered as qualifying for the profession of an engineer. In all such cases , the decision of the Council as to whether an engagement is satisfactory or not shall be final.
